Monkey Zero Studio started as an idea I had long ago to form my own small hobby game studio where I could build the games that I wanted and not worry so much about who i had to answer to making them. As an 18 year old "Kid" i thought it would be nice to self publish a game like some one would self publish a book and distribute them on a per-copy basis.
I have now since learned the term for that idea is Indie Game Development, and that Now days, almost 14 years later, is digital distribution is a more cost effective and viable means of getting the product out with out having to worry about a middle man.
The Problem is, My project idea have all been too complex and far too grand to actually do with a small team of developer working out of their own pockets. Harder still is making even the most simple sounding game is harder then just making art assets and throwing them into a game engine and seeing what come out.
Such a silly idealistic little man I have been. and since this last failure to get a game started (mainly due to burnout and poor planning) I have come to the realization that really what I love is 3D asset creation, and I have gotten pretty good at it over these long years.
While I do not see myself as a professional 3D Assets artist in any respect of the words. I do see my work is that of a capable amateur who can hold his own and come up with some pretty good looking models if he puts his mind to it.
After a frustrating stint with the Unreal Development Kit (UDK for short) I was pretty close to swearing off trying to make any game, and worse yet, swear off making 3D asset. A past-time that I still very much enjoy doing even at it's most challenging. It wasn't until a friend of mine told me that maybe I should give Unity3D more then just a scoff filled glance.
with in a few days I was hooked. The joy of my 3D hobby was back and i was actually able to make something out it all. With a little help I was able to do something I had years ago decided I was never going to be able to learn. I coded my first scripted behavior in and actual common use language. and with in the first few hours of actually getting my hand dirty, I discovered that there was a really hand feature in unity called the Asset store.
I now have found my attitude on the topic of Unity vs. UDK flipped 180 degrees and now planning using my Indie studio name as the basis for assets design and maybe game house.
with that firmly decided i came back to this blog and have ripper it down to it's bare part only to start building it back up and re-purpose it as what i hope it will be come.
I am now currently in the process of of converting my list of personal Game Props from my failed game project into usable and properly scaled game assets and props that others can buy and use. These assets will be loaded up into themed pack and then distributed in the Unity Asset Store in the near future.
I also have a plan. I will be using all of the proceeds of these Assets Sales directly in a 1:1 ratio in buying a copy of Unity Pro for future project if I am so inclined.
So that it. That is Monkey Zero Studio as it stand today. One small step at a time, and someday I may finally make that game I have always wanted to make.
Please Note: I will not accept any long term team work offers. I am available for short term freelance work for a project by project fee. A project may be of just one prop or many depending on the complexity, and how long it will take me to complete it. All resulting files with belong to both my client and my self to use however we feel like. When time to give credits, I will expect to see my named mentioned in some way or another.
